Massanutten Hall to JMAC 4 Telecom Duct-Bank

Strengthening JMU's infrastructure to support seamless communication and future growth
To support JMU’s expanding telecommunications infrastructure, Colman Engineering provided civil engineering services for a new telecom duct-bank between JMAC 4 and Massanutten Hall.
The project included a partial boundary and topographic survey to identify impacts to city property and existing utilities, as well as plan and profile designs for the telecom route, ensuring conflicts and adjustments were addressed. During design, Colman Engineering had to reroute the proposed telecom path due to multiple complex utility crossings. By carefully evaluating alternatives, the team was able to relocate the route in a way that minimized crossings, making construction more efficient and reducing potential conflicts.
Colman Engineering also coordinated closely with the City of Harrisonburg to facilitate construction within the right-of-way and worked with JMU and city stakeholders to meet all permitting and design requirements, ensuring a seamless approval process and successful integration into the existing infrastructure.
