About Us

Gil Colman founded Colman Engineering in 2010 and currently serves as President. As a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with over 25 years of experience, Gil guides the Colman Engineering team in providing high-quality engineering services that look beyond the task at hand—designing solutions that will work today and into the future. As a result, Gil and his team have earned a reputation for “doing things right” for their clients and the community. 

Gil’s commitment to excellence and caring is also reflected in his extensive public service, where he focuses on community development and affordable housing. As such, he has served in various leadership roles, including as chair of the Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, the City of Harrisonburg Planning Commission, and the Central Valley Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.

​Gil graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in civil engineering, focusing on environmental and water resources engineering. He belongs to the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) and has been a long-time member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).
