JMAC 6 Site Plan

Supporting JMU’s expansion with Foundation Hall site design
Colman Engineering provided civil site design services for the JMAC 6 building, now known as Foundation Hall, a 44,000-square-foot facility housing the James Madison University Foundation. This modern space doubles the size of the Foundation's previous offices and supports its mission by providing ample workspace while fostering collaboration. The majority of the building (87%) is leased to the University, with tenants including the University Advancement Departments and other groups closely aligned with the Foundation's work. The project was completed an impressive three months ahead of schedule.
Colman’s services included site planning, preliminary surveying, grading, stormwater management, and other critical design elements to support the building's development. Late changes to the stormwater design required extensive negotiation with the City of Harrisonburg to allow for discharging stormwater to the street, ensuring compliance with local regulations. The project included facilitating preliminary submittals and approvals for Fire Chief Review, PER, and TIA, and Colman successfully guided the site plan through the city’s approval process.
Throughout the project, Colman worked closely with the City of Harrisonburg, JMU, and the project architect, ensuring a coordinated and efficient process. These efforts contributed to the successful and timely completion of Foundation Hall, which now serves as a hub for collaboration and advancement at James Madison University.
