Shenandoah Valley Organic Stormwater Compliance

Addressing state and federal requirements for stormwater discharge
With a facility located adjacent to a waterway, SVO was struggling to stay compliant with varying—and sometimes conflicting—discharge requirements being enforced by three different agencies.
Colman Engineering coordinated with the City of Harrisonburg, the regional sewer authority, and DEQ to develop a plan that met the most-stringent requirements, to satisfy all three agencies. This plan involved isolating the stormwater—capturing discharges that mix with processed water and routing it to an existing pump station to be treated onsite and discharged into the sewer system. The discharge into the sewer system was permitted by the City of Harrisonburg as well as the regional sewer treatment plant.
SVO can now expand its production with the peace of mind that it meets state and federal requirements.
