New Market Airport Runway Pavement Design

Revitalizing New Market Airport’s runway for enhanced performance and safety
Colman Engineering partnered with New Market Airport to rehabilitate and repave its existing runway, ensuring it met state and FAA standards for anticipated use and maximum takeoff weights. This project was essential to maintaining safe, functional infrastructure for airport operations.
The project began with a site topographic survey to analyze existing grades and drainage patterns, forming the basis for a grading design aligned with FAA requirements. Colman Engineering developed detailed pavement design specifications based on subgrade conditions, incorporating cross-section details and slope recommendations for the runway.
Throughout the project, Colman Engineering provided coordination and bid assistance, helping the airport owner select a contractor and estimate costs. During construction, the team delivered comprehensive administration services, ensuring quality assurance and quality control at every stage. This included oversight of pavement demolition, subgrade preparation, and asphalt testing. Safety requirements and FAA regulations were seamlessly integrated into the project workflow.
With the new runway in place, New Market Airport is equipped to handle current and future demands, providing a safer and more efficient experience for its users.
