LRCC Trades Lab

Leading the site/civil design for Laurel Ridge Community College's state-of-the-art trades lab
Laurel Ridge Community College (formerly Lord Fairfax) is expanding its Fauquier County campus with an 8,000-square-foot Trades Lab to provide students with hands-on opportunities to develop trade skills.
Colman Engineering partnered with the college to deliver a civil site design plan approved by Fauquier County for construction. Beginning with a schematic design phase, the team refined the project’s conceptual plan, coordinated with utility providers, and prepared preliminary layouts for grading, utilities, and stormwater management. During the preliminary design phase, additional survey data and a basemap were incorporated to develop engineering plans for site improvements.
The final working drawings detailed all site features, including parking, ADA-compliant pedestrian pathways, stormwater management facilities, and erosion control measures. Construction administration services ensured quality project delivery, with bid support, construction observation, and as-built plans to meet BMP certification requirements.
This collaborative effort lays the groundwork for an interactive and educational space that will shape the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
