Fairview Pump Station Replacement

Fairview Pump Station Replacement

Upgrading critical infrastructure to support current and future community growth

The Harrisonburg Department of Public Utilities, as part of their asset management plan, was looking to replace an aging and failing pump station. The site of the current pump station also presented design challenges, due to low flows and low heads.

The Colman Engineering team sat down with the Department of Public Utilities to learn about their goals for the project. They explored several options, including whether to create a new pump station at the current site, or at an adjacent site. Although both options presented their own challenges, Colman Engineering determined that using the current site would be the best—and most cost-effective—option for the city.

The new pump station—complete with the latest pumps and equipment—will provide the city with enough capacity to serve the area’s current, ongoing, and future development.
