EMU Master Plan Update

Creating a forward-thinking master plan to guide campus growth and development
Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) sought to update its Institutional Master Plan with the City of Harrisonburg, including provisions for planned and future site improvements.
Colman Engineering supported EMU by delivering a comprehensive Master Plan Layout and Narrative for approval. Beginning with a detailed analysis of existing site conditions, Colman utilized drone flights and topographic surveys to generate accurate terrain mapping. The team coordinated with EMU, stakeholders, and City staff to ensure the updated plan met all requirements.
A preliminary campus map was prepared for stakeholder input, forming the foundation for the final Master Plan exhibit. This high-level layout included existing and proposed buildings, setbacks, parking, and other site features. A narrative document accompanied the layout to clearly convey the intent and content of the proposed update.
Throughout the permitting process, Colman Engineering worked closely with City staff, updated documents based on feedback, and supported EMU in Planning Commission and City Council meetings to facilitate a smooth approval process.
