Bridgeforth Stadium Drainage Study

Mitigating turf flooding, so the game can go on—even with intense rains

JMU’s football venue, Bridgeforth Stadium, was facing stormwater drainage challenges, including flooding on its artificial turf field.

The Colman Engineering team met with JMU’s Construction Engineer to discuss the issues. Since JMU was already in the process of replacing the turf, the team was able to examine the subgrade and identify otherwise-unseen issues that were contributing to the problem.

Colman Engineering performed a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of the installed underdrain system and provided guidance for mitigating the turf flooding issues. With the improved drainage system, JMU can now fully utilize their football field, even after heavy rainfalls.
