Suter Street Development

Creating affordable housing opportunities while fostering community growth and stability
To address the critical need for affordable housing in Harrisonburg, the Suter Street Development transforms an undeveloped site into a thriving neighborhood offering both rental and homeownership options for families and individuals. A unique collaboration between Central Valley Habitat for Humanity and Friendly City Development LLC, this project exemplifies public-private partnership in action.
Colman Engineering provided comprehensive civil engineering services, including conceptual and preliminary site design, surveying, final design, and post-approval documentation. Additional responsibilities included BMP design and certification, construction administration, and the design of water and sewer connections to integrate the new development with the existing neighborhood.
These efforts not only create affordable housing options but also strengthen the community by providing accessible, high-quality housing in a walkable, city-centered location that supports first-time homeowners and immigrant families.
