Our Client Founded in 1908, James Madison University is a public university located in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. JMU is fast becoming one of the nation’s leading lights in higher education because students enjoy unusually engaged relationships with world-class faculty who are here because they want to pursue knowledge and make teaching their No. 1 priority.
Project Description University Recreation (UREC) of James Madison University (JMU) is planning a trail that will serve as part of a course for 5K race events. The proposed 5K course will start at the University Park Gatehouse, go north through the woods toward the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, loop around the UREC facilities via existing roads, sidewalks and trails, and return through the woods to end back at the Gatehouse.
The course could be used for an estimated ten 5K race events per year.
Colman Engineering, working with UREC and Facilities Management staff determined a preferred alignment for the new portion of the trail and prepared preliminary layout drawings, along with a feasibility and cost estimate report.
