Customer Story James Madison University Modular Building Project
Delivering site design and construction support for new modular building on east campus.
Our Client Founded in 1908, James Madison University is a public university located in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. JMU is fast becoming one of the nation’s leading lights in higher education because students enjoy unusually engaged relationships with world-class faculty who are here because they want to pursue knowledge and make teaching their No. 1 priority.
Project Description Colman Engineering provided civil engineering services for JMU’s new modular building, located adjacent to the field hockey field on east campus.
The project began with a detailed pre-design investigation, including a topographic site survey and utility mapping, to create a comprehensive base map for planning.
Building on this foundation, Colman Engineering collaborated with the design team to develop conceptual and preliminary site layouts, addressing grading, drainage, erosion control, and utility tie-ins, as well as lighting and demolition plans. Final construction documents were prepared to meet JMU and DEB standards.
These efforts support JMU’s campus expansion while minimizing site disturbance and ensuring functionality for future use.
