Customer Story James Madison University Harrison Street Parking Lots
Designing safe, efficient, and integrated parking facilities to accommodate growing demand.
Our Client Founded in 1908, James Madison University is a public university located in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. JMU is fast becoming one of the nation’s leading lights in higher education because students enjoy unusually engaged relationships with world-class faculty who are here because they want to pursue knowledge and make teaching their No. 1 priority.
Project Description Colman Engineering was engaged to design two separate parking lots along Harrison Street, based on a prior feasibility study. The project included boundary and topographic surveys, site design for grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility relocations, including a required sewer main relocation.
Each parking lot design featured entrances, sidewalks, lighting, erosion control, and landscaping to meet JMU, City of Harrisonburg, and state agency requirements.
Additionally, Colman Engineering prepared an Environmental Impact Report for DEQ approval, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
These improvements provide safe, efficient, and integrated parking facilities to accommodate JMU’s growing demand, serving students, faculty, and staff while enhancing campus infrastructure.
